Meet Proudly KZN Hip Hop Artist and Producer PK

Sanele Mncwabe or rather better known to you by his stage name PK was born in 1992.

PK is a South African Hip Hop Recording Artist and Producer originally from Hammarsdale in KwaZulu Natal.

Before I even knew about PK, I had heard his signature many times “May U Halla At PK”.

PK's music is based on his life and how he feels - the beat is based on the emotion. His environment brings out the art in him and that he layers out in his sound.

PK believes that with his sound, he can bring out new ideas to the youth - music is NOT about using drugs to get good music

Currently, PK is working on his EP Titled Mix Emotions and he has just dropped the lead Single titled "Imbokodo" ft Yaya.

Imbokodo is a track dedicated to all the mothers out there taking care of their children. On the track he plays the part of a grown up boy whose mother doesn't think he can keep up with all he's doing - i.e. music and school at the same time. On the other hand, he's thanking his Mother for being there for him all the time. His mother is not working, whilst he makes music and earns a little cash with his beats that he sells. He also still makes sure his schoolwork gets done in time.

He called the EP MixEmotion because in in his life he's faced many issues, many of which inspired each track on this EP. Each track has its own emotion - both down and high moods.

From 2012 to 2015, PK was part of a buzzing rap group called Same Time Crew (STC).

In 2015, PK went on solo.

At the time, finances at home were such that he couldn’t go study. He started working and with his small salary he bought his own small home studio.

PK’s earliest influence in making music dates back to spending time with his two "house" friends – at this time he knew nothing about hip hop and was a "house dancer". His friends who used to go to his home and make beats using his laptop told him that he should start making music with them. At first he just watched them, but before long, he wanted to try it himself. PK says he fell in love with the sound from singing whilst making his own beats.

And from such humble beginnings, in 2017, PK released hits like “ImTheThuG” and “Blow Blow”.

"ImTheThuG"made it to number 1 on the InandaFm Hoods up Show.

Internationally, PK is inspired by Meek Mill. He is not only inspired by his beat selection and flows, but he also listens to him intently. Most of Meek's tracks talk about his life growing up without a father figure. At the age of 16, Meek had to be a father to his family and even had to sell drugs to make a living. PK resonates with this, as he also grew up without a father figure. Luckily he didn’t have to sell drugs. PK says you will never find him sad or feeling sorry for himself - he's in studio making music and the music he produces heal him.

Locally, he is inspired by SA Rapper Emtee Da Hustler. Emtee loves his family and even though Emtee has made the headlines lately as a result of drug issues, he feels Emtee can come out of this and that deeper things can come out of this with his good friends and family behind him.

PK has shared stage with the likes of Dj Tira, Zakes Bantwini , Zakwe, Musiholiq, Young Cannibal and Duncan to name a few.

Same Vision Records is his own record label which PK registered in 2016.
